A correct upgrade should take no longer than 5-10 Minutes. [.] Upgrading From A Previous 2.x Release [.] Upgrading From 1.7 / 1.8 Please remember to backup your database and files prior to performing any upgrades for extra protection!! ------------------------------------------------------------- UPGRADING FROM A PREVIOUS V2 RELEASE ------------------------------------------------------------- The upgrade system was recoded in V2 to provide an easy way to apply database changes and upgrades efficiently. Firstly, you will need to set the variables in conf.cgi.dist as you did with your original installation, then rename this file to conf.cgi and overwrite the previous conf.cgi file. It is ESSENTIAL that you set the correct path to the backup folder, and upload the new contents (sql files) you that folder to be able to apply the new database structure. Then upload all files, overwriting your old files. Navigate to the admin.cgi in your web browser, you should be immediately redirected to the Backup and Upgrade screen where you can manage the database. If you have uploaded all the files correctly, you should see upgrade options listed at the bottom of the page. Find the one relevant to the version you are upgrading from and select the 'UPGRADE' link next to that file. After this your software will be updated and you can continue to use PerlDesk as normal. ------------------------------------------------------------- Upgrading From 1.7 / 1.8 ------------------------------------------------------------- a) Create a backup of your current database and installation. b) Open up the conf.cgi and set the database access variables and other settings. You must also set the path to the backup folder in the conf.cgi, the program should have r-w access to this folder. The backup folder should be out of your www root, or protected. This is vital, any database backups will be stored in this folder. Putting this directory in an unprotected web folder will give the public access to any database backups! c) Upload all new files, remembering to ensure all .cgi files are set to 755, and all new images are uploaded. d) Go to your admin.cgi, you should be automatically redirected to the backup/upgrade section. There should be a file listed already, simply click the 'Upgrade' link. e) After upgrading you will be redirected to your settings page to reconfirm all your configuration options. Save them and you are done. We hope you enjoy using PerlDesk v2.17!!
